Free trials: Is something up?

So scanning through the masses of information that is available on the MMORPG market at the moment my attention was grabbed by 2 bits of news that seemed a bit out of place. Apparently both Champions Online and Fallen Earth are offering free trials to people at the moment, as well as this both of [...]

Aion Launch Day: Awesome!

So its about 3 1/2 hours to launch now and finally the game I have been waiting for all my 3 weeks since I stopped playing WoW is finally here. Seriously though, it seems a lot more enjoyable and time went a lot faster due to the fact I wasn’t religiously following the game and [...]

This is just a quick post about the latest goings on with the industries latest big fanfare release, its not a full review and more of an overview of how the game launched.

Fallout 3: Downloadable Content Review

Fallout 3. The mere mention of this game meant nothing to me at first as, admittedly; I was new to the series and only picked it up on recommendation from a friend who crudely described it as “Oblivion with guns”. This on its own was enough to spark my interest as I was a self confessed Oblivion nut (See the first Retrogamer review to find out why!). So on launch day I picked up both Fallout and Gears of War 2 and due to this release, Gears of War stayed in the cellophane for a long time.

TNBT: The Next Big Thing

So today is new Wednesday 2nd September 2009. In exactly 20 days The next big thing will launch. Its called Aion.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (of awesome)

So the latest rumours about the latest expansion have been announced. Looks like the World of Warcraft developers are taking the game pretty much a full circle back to Azeroth and back to the old kingdoms. Cue the usual whinging about lore this and arthas that, and something about paladins (either over or underpowered). Thankfully it looks like Blizzard have grown a massive set of balls and are set to tear the old world apart and remake it which is significantly awesome. Lots of angry “lorefags” are complaining because now the story isn’t what it used to be. These are the same people that probably ended up having a psyhciatric assesment after trying to kill themselves because dumbledore died in the harry potter books and now everything wasn’t the same. Incidentally anyone reading this who is angry at changes to the story, welcome to the world of storytelling, you know where things progress and advance and change. If you want something to keep you happy here is a short story by myself “two people met and fell in love and lived happily ever after, no kids, no change of jobs, no nothing, they did exactly the same thing everyday for 74 years until they died at the same time, because if one died before the other it may have almost have made it different, they both died in their sleep, no excitement at all…”

Anyway, now that i’ve set up protection against the crying morons, the following are the details that have been released so far, with a bit of personal opinion and commentary.

The Greed of Ignorant Gamers

Well here we have a happy article and no doubt there will be a few people on the site who won’t read this, and maybe perhaps they should. This article is about generalised greed among gamers, the ones who want to get what they want regardless of the cost to anyone else and without giving [...]

I am the Lord your Developer…

I am the Lord your Developer…

Thou shalt have no developers before me.
Starting off this article on an intresting note, I was out today doing the usual things I do, like going shopping, posting letters, you know… normal people stuff. Well you may be wondering exactly why I brought this up, and the intrigue building up, can be answered by me [...]

Pay to Play or Pay to Win?

Pay to Play or Pay to Win?

Something that’s been thrown around a bit in the MMORPG discussion ring recently is the whole free to play and pay to play argument. There are always people with opinions on the matters and there is no shortage of apparent firepower for either side when debating issues related to these games. I’ve played a lot of different games in my time, including free to play and pay to play and this entire article focuses on my own personal preference between the two, and the reasons behind the preference. This is not an attack on your chosen subscription model, your chosen genre or game, or indeed your own personal opinion, or even an attack on you personally.
