The Greed of Ignorant Gamers

Well here we have a happy article and no doubt there will be a few people on the site who won’t read this, and maybe perhaps they should. This article is about generalised greed among gamers, the ones who want to get what they want regardless of the cost to anyone else and without giving a thought to how it might impact on themselves and others.

Ill give you the background to this particular article, as it comes in the simple form of Heroes of Newerth Beta Keys. The amount of assholes who registered on the site took their keys and left is pretty astounding, considering we have barely any active users at the moment, although we always expected it to be this way. less than 5% of people who got keys made anything more than the required posts we ask, and I don’t really thinka nyone that registered for a key bothered coming back after getting one.

The great thing is nobody has helped grow the site at all, and now we are pretty much out of keys there are no new people registering apart from the odd retard who registers, makes 5 posts, then vanishes after reading the thread and realising they have wasted their time. Part of the problem is a single site from Chile which directed asshole members here told them to spam to get a key, and then roll away and leave the site. Ironic isn’t it that this quite large gaming site couldn’t get keys themselves for members and had to come to us, new guys on the scene lol. I’ll take pleasure in struggling this site up from its roots, knowing full well I never had to resort to crap-bag tactics to get things for my members. There is also a site in Hungary offering the same thing, they have been told to fuck themselves as well.

The great thing is there is a vast ocean of gamers out there like this, ones that think they are entitled to beta access, than people owe them something because they took time to register on their site etc etc. On the flipside you have assholes running websites, not unlike this one that think every member who gets something owes them the earth. Almost not unlike myself. I think people who registered here for a key should be made to work for it, they should show their commitment to a community and I stupidly though I would get a good few decent gamers out. What I didn’t count on is that the vast majority would be non-english speaking fucks who have no concept of community, politeness or friendship. There were even flame wars from other sites that spilled onto here, and angry PM’s sent to me frome people who didn’t get a key instantly, which was fun on my part cos they were told to fuck off and that they would never get keys.

I’ve actually read a few threads etc on other sites recently, people getting all upset about open beta tests being increasinly run through pay sites like Fileplanet. Part of the reason sites like these get access to the beta tests is the size of their community and the fact they can provide loads of people with clients etc. Small sites like us that might be the only option get left out cos we are small communities that can’t get a load of testers in and help the beta out. You can bet the people bitching about this won’t take the time to help out smaller communties grow and maybe have a shot at keys. Some people do stick around and they like to help out and get things going, wether they get rewards or not, and these people are the ones who may in future go on to open their own site to try things out, and again get fucked over by your generic asshole gamer looking to get into a game for free and have a days fun before heading to the next site for their next key the second they have to pay some money.

I’ve learned my lesson though, when I contact developers in future I will be getting a small handful of keys for members of the site who have made an effort, have worked on the site and have contributed to the community. From now on its going to be the hardworking members of the site rewarded, and even if we get a large amount of keys the top contributers will get theirs handed to them and everyone else will be in a draw or competition. I think its time sites started making gamers work for their keys. Hell there’s plenty of hardcore gamers willing to fork over money for a key so im sure a small bit of work is no issue to them. So for anybody who just happens to read this, or found their way here by searching for “HoN Beta Keys” don’t waste your time making the posts and waiting, cos a key isn’t coming.

Im hoping this is the first stage of the internal noobwarfare on this site itself, we are weeding out the weak and greedy from our ranks, and marching forward stronger for it. A well trained squad of 10 can kill and army of thousands if they are all idiots hellbent on firing weapons randomly.
